How To Get Air Out Of A Hydraulic System?

Removing air from a hydraulic system, also known as bleeding or purging the system, is essential to maintain proper functionality and prevent issues such as spongy brakes or reduced performance. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get air out of a hydraulic system:

  1. Identify Air-Entry Points:
    • Determine the potential entry points where air might have entered the hydraulic system. Common entry points include loose fittings, damaged seals, or recently replaced components.
  2. Gather Necessary Tools and Materials:
    • Before starting the bleeding process, gather the required tools and materials, including a wrench or socket set, a container to collect fluid, fresh hydraulic fluid, and protective gloves.
  3. Locate the Bleeder Valve:
    • Find the bleeder valve(s) on the hydraulic system. The bleeder valve is typically located near the component that requires bleeding, such as a brake caliper, clutch slave cylinder, or hydraulic cylinder.
  4. Preparatory Steps:
    • Ensure that the hydraulic fluid reservoir is filled to the proper level. This will help prevent introducing additional air into the system during bleeding.
    • If necessary, consult the equipment manual or manufacturer’s instructions for specific guidelines on fluid type and recommended bleeding procedure.
  5. Open the Bleeder Valve:
    • Using an appropriate wrench or socket, carefully loosen the bleeder valve on your bleeding component. Ensure the valve is reduced enough to allow trapped air and fluid to escape.
  6. Bleeding Procedure:
    • With the bleeder valve open, have an assistant slowly apply pressure to the hydraulic system by activating the corresponding control (e.g., pressing the brake pedal or operating the hydraulic lever).
    • As the pressure builds, air bubbles trapped in the system should begin to escape through the open bleeder valve. Allow the fluid to flow until all visible air bubbles are eliminated, and a steady stream of fluid is observed.
  7. Close the Bleeder Valve:
    • Once the air bubbles have been purged and only fluid is flowing from the bleeder valve, close the valve tightly to prevent further air from entering the system.

    • If necessary, repeat the bleeding process for each component in the hydraulic system, starting from the one closest to the hydraulic fluid reservoir and moving towards the farthest component.

The optimal allocation and efficient use of equipment resources ensure the accuracy requirements of products and meet the high-quality needs of products.

The machining shop is equipped with a customized inclined rail turning center, machining center, high-speed honing machine, welding robot, and other related equipment, which can handle the processing of cylinder tubes with a maximum inner diameter of 400mm and a maximum length of 6 meters.
